# How audiences work

> Choosing who receives a campaign

Every campaign goes to one audience. You choose it at the **Audience** stage, after the draft is finished.

## Pick one source

The audience picker offers four sources.

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Saved lists" icon="list" href="/audience/lists">
    Lists you have built or imported, including [Klaviyo](/connect/klaviyo) segments and [Mailchimp](/connect/mailchimp) audiences.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Suggested segments" icon="sparkles" href="/audience/ai-segmentation">
    Segments LTV.ai proposes for this campaign, with customer counts.
  </Card>

  <Card title="CSV upload" icon="file-csv">
    Upload a list for this campaign. LTV.ai detects the columns automatically.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Exclusions" icon="ban" href="/audience/exclusions">
    Applied on top of whichever source you chose.
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

<Warning>
  You select **one** audience per campaign. LTV.ai does not merge several audiences into a single send, and it does not build per segment variants of one campaign. To reach two different groups with different messages, create two campaigns.
</Warning>

## Empty and holdout lists

Lists with no members, and lists marked as holdout or exclusion lists, are hidden from the picker so they cannot be selected as a send target by mistake.

## Counts

Every option shows a customer count before you commit. Counts reflect your synced data at that moment, so they move as Shopify and Klaviyo sync.

The count shown is before exclusions. Your actual delivered volume will be lower once unsubscribes, bounces, and exclusions are applied. See [Exclusions and suppression](/audience/exclusions).

## Sending limits

On a new domain, or when a campaign is much larger than your recent sends, LTV.ai caps or warns on volume before scheduling. See [Warm-up and sending limits](/send/warmup-and-limits).
